James Hunt and Niki Lauda
2012
Niki Lauda and James Hunt were two great Grand Prix drivers in the 1970s. Friends and competitors they were further immortalized in Ron Howard movie Rush. I saw Lauda winning the Monaco Grand Prix in 1976 and few weeks later he almost died from burns in the German Grand Prix which Hunt won. Miraculously Lauda came back to racing in the Monza Grand Prix and was leading to win the Championship until at the Japanese Grand Prix with torrential rains he retired allowing Hunt to win the Championship by one point. Hunt was an unique character and great driver, Lauda one of the greatest ever. McLaren and Ferrari are in the background of the composite painting.
